Burley is one of the many beautiful, quaint little forest towns within the New Forest National Park. and is surrounded by 150 square miles of forest.
Animals roam free here and the New Forest is famous for the New Forest Ponies which are owned by the commoners of the New Forest (people who live in the Forest) they roam free due to Commoner’s Rights which all residents of the New Forest have.
This means they are able to put their ponies and livestock on the forest land to live free.
Along with the New Forest Ponies are pigs, cows, deer, and other forest animals you can see roaming around free within the forest villages and landscape.
Because of all these wonderful animals roaming free, it is imperative that you stick to the speed limit as it unfortunately happens every year that some of these beautiful animals are killed by tourists not sticking to the speed limit or watching out for these animals roaming on the roads.

The afternoon tea here at the Burley Manor Hotel is simply sublime. Perfect for a Mother’s Day treat. It’s a favourite destination of my Mum as she loves to watch the Deer roam while she sits in the courtyard enjoying her tea.
Vegan and gluten-free afternoon tea! Enjoy sun-blushed tomato, basil and balsamic tarts, deliciously filled sandwiches and Ben’s Burley chocolate brownies and vanilla orange blossom cake. YUMMY!

Burley Manor New Forest
The grounds and the New Forest surrounding Burley Manor are simply stunning. Straight out of the entrance you are in Burley Village. A beautiful, historical forest village filled with quaint thatched shops. There is a magical history here too.
There are a number of witch shops in Burley because the village of Burley has a history of witchcraft. Withing these amazing shops you will find everything witchcraft. It really is very unique and truly charming.
The reason for this is; that during the late 1950’s Sybil Leek a famous ‘white’ witch lived in the village and was often seen walking around in her long black cloak with her pet jackdaw sitting on her shoulder. This upset the locals so much that she was forced to leave and immigrated to America.
One of the current witches’ shops within Burley is called ‘The Witches Coven’ and this shop was named by Sybil the Burley witch. This remains its name to this very day.
Burley Horse Wagon Rides

Within the village, you will also find Horse wagon rides which will take you on a wonderful tour of the local New Forest and past and through Burley Manor grounds. You will pass the deer park also and may be lucky enough to spot some fawns.
You will find the Burley Wagon Rides at the Queens Head pub in the car park to the side. This is where they leave from.
